WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR CLOTHES?

Most people in early America made their own clothes.
There weren’t any shopping malls to go to, so many
farmers raised sheep for their wool. Even though most
people buy their clothes ready-made today, many
people still raise animals, like sheep and llamas for their fiber.
Color and follow the story to see from
start to finish how clothes are made.

1. Many farmers raise sheep for wool.

2. Each spring the farmer will shear (cut off) the wool fleece (coat) of the sheep.

3. The wool is washed and picked over by hand. The next step is carding (combing) the fibers so they all run in the same direction.

4. The wool is ready to be spun into yarn by using a spinning wheel.
  5. Then the yarn can be placed on a loom and woven into cloth or can be knitted into socks, mittens, sweaters or other things.
