Frederick County Farm Bureau Lime Program
Since 1998, through the Frederick County Farm Bureau’s Member Benefits Committee, we have been selling a damp, high quality, hydrated lime throughout the four-state area of Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland
We are the exclusive marketers of this product through an arrangement with Eastern Materials, Inc. of Pasadena, MD. Our lime is a food grade material that is used in the sugar refining process at the Domino plant in Baltimore. We deliver the material directly from the Baltimore plant to the farm. We do not spread the material, we simply deliver and dump at the site designated by the farmer.
The beauty of this program is two-fold. First, this is an outstanding lime that, due to the fineness of the grind and the fact it is hydrated, becomes immediately available to correct soil pH in a matter of weeks after application. Second, the price is very, very attractive.
Our charges are based on the mileage from the Baltimore plant to the farm. For example, within 50 miles, the cost is $5.68 per ton, from 51-70 miles, the rate is $7.30 per ton and the rates go up with each 20 mile addition to the haul. This cost is hard to beat when you consider material quality and ease of handling.
