RECYCLING
Throwaway bottles and cans are a serious nuisance to
landowners, can cause injury to animals and can damage equipment. Therefore, we
urge the passage of legislation that would require beverage containers be made
of recyclable materials. Furthermore, we recommend that a sufficient deposit be
charged on each container to assure its return for recycling. ’05
Due to the growing problem of waste management and its
environmental effects, we support material recycling and the use of
biodegradable plastics.’07
We support the development of a state agricultural-plastic
recycling program. '04
We support recycling and the development of industries that
utilize recycled materials, as well as development of markets for recycled
products. '04
Due to the increased use of plastic wrap in agriculture, we
urge the search for a suitable reclamation process. '04
Tire Fund
The state Tire Fund collection program for farmers should be
expanded to include a program that would collect used farm tires from each of
four regions of the state once every four years. This program should collect all
used farm tires as long as the funds are available in the Tire Fund without
raising fees. ’07
We request that the tire recycling fee levied on new tire
purchases be used exclusively for research into tire recycling and to subsidize
actual tire recycling projects.'04
